SeaFire Invention Makes it to Worldwide Top 8

Cloud and Smartphone Innovation - Awarded in NYC

March 4, 2013 (Beverly, MA) SeaFire was presented with an industry recognition award for placing within the Top 8 out of 1,000 inventions in a worldwide competition held by Tech Briefs in NYC. SeaFire's patented invention, Grid-X, increases the speed of cloud computing and mobile streaming video, while lowering consumed power. Grid-X is new technology composed of network protocol, software, and systems-on-chip. Some configurations have been run on an Android-based smartphone, and others within a cloud computing environment reducing power by as much as 75% on a 10 – 100 Gbps network, while utilizing over 90% of available network Bandwidth.

SeaFire thanked all award sponsors, seed investors, commercial partners, and thanked NASA and NSF for their R&D funding that enabled SeaFire to develop Grid-X through non-duplicative, separate components comprising the new networking technology. The recognition award judge panel included 40 esteemed scientists and engineers from industry, research, and the federal government.

Several developments had taken place since the January 2013 Tech Briefs ceremony, including recognition within the engineering and science communities, the addition of a soon to be disclosed multibillion-dollar key commercialization partner in March 2013, and the addition of commercial partners for new projects geared towards smartphones.
